As part of the Sizewell B lifetime extension project, we supported our client in replacing two condensate storage tanks.
The flat-bottomed, cylindrical welded tanks are essential to the safe running of the site, providing emergency backup cooling to the plant. At 15 metres in diameter and 13 metres in height, they sit in tank bases made of purpose-built reinforced concrete foundations meeting Safety Category I and Seismic Category I civil structures for nuclear installations.
In addition to designing the bases, we ensured safe isolation procedures, ground scanning for unknown services and carefully planned works around other live activities across the station to deliver with minimal disruption over nine months.
