Project Overview

It is operated by the University of Strathclyde and supported by Scottish Government, Scottish Enterprise, Highlands and Islands Enterprise, High-Value Manufacturing Catapult, Skills Development Scotland, Scottish Funding Council and Renfrewshire Council.

As the HQ of the NMIS, the new building will house a fully digitalised factory of the future, skills academy and collaboration hub that will bring manufacturers together to work on the development of innovative new manufacturing technologies and products. It will support manufacturing and engineering firms of all sizes and from all sectors across the country, and internationally, to innovate and grow their businesses in the global market.

Approach

The National Manufacturing Institute Scotland (NMIS) is at the heart of the Advanced Manufacturing Innovation District Scotland in Renfrewshire. It is operated by the University of Strathclyde and supported by Scottish Government, Scottish Enterprise, Highlands and Islands Enterprise, High-Value Manufacturing Catapult, Skills Development Scotland, Scottish Funding Council and Renfrewshire Council.

We have been engaged to undertake the mechanical and electrical installation of the new building. Working closely with the main contractor Morrison Construction, the MEP designer and the client Renfrewshire Council, the team will ensure that the mechanical and electrical services are procured, installed and completed to budget, meeting the planned build programme.

Result

By using innovative technologies and materials that have been, or can be, remanufactured and reused, we are working collaboratively with Morrison Construction towards ensuring the building will be awarded BREEAM ‘outstanding’ for sustainability – the highest accolade for sustainability in UK construction.

Construction is currently underway on site with the project due to be completed in 2022.

Testimonial

It’s fantastic to see our new digital factory coming to life and really taking shape as construction on the new NMIS HQ continues at a great pace. It’s been a difficult year for the manufacturing sector but we are feeling optimistic about the future and the continued support that we can provide across the NMIS group with de-risking innovation and boosting the skills of the manufacturing workforce of today and tomorrow.
