Project Overview

Dalkia were appointed by Harrogate and District Hospital, via the Carbon Energy Fund (CEF) framework, to upgrade and improve its mechanical and electrical infrastructure and deliver guaranteed savings of over £15m in the next 25 years. Following the installation project, Dalkia’s technical facilities management team are ensuring the guaranteed savings are realised through optimisation of the systems via a robust maintenance regime.

Approach

The team took an innovative, holistic approach to the design element of this project. By understanding the whole system, they were able to implement innovative solutions in a number of areas. One example is the recycling of low-grade waste heat created by the main system. Usually lost into the atmosphere, this heat is now rerouted to the top deck of the hospital car park and reused within an underfloor heating system to de-ice the surface. This alone created savings of approx. £25,000 per annum, which would normally be spent on gritting this area during the winter months.

Results

The project was delivered successfully and to the client’s satisfaction and Dalkia was awarded a maintenance contract at the hospital for 25 years.
