Project Overview

Dalkia were engaged as the principal contractor working directly for NHS Ayrshire and Arran Health Board.

Approach

Our approach was to provide a purpose-built boiler house with new energy efficient steam raising boiler plant and flues, an ancillary plant, extension of the existing gas service, associated pipework, electrical services and building management systems (BMS) to complete the installation.

As part of the works the existing CSSD facility and Boiler Plant was to remain fully operational throughout with a seamless changeover to the new Boiler Plant. Employing our “Right First Time” approach we developed the design in collaboration with the Health Boards design partner TUV SUD using Building Information Modelling. Due to the constraints of working within a live operational site we also implemented a full Traffic Management and Logistics Plan to ensure disruption was minimised for NHS Ayrshire and Arran.

Result

The project was completed and handed over in November 2019.The Ayrshire and Arran success builds on a number of similar Plant Upgrade projects secured with NHS authorities through the NHS Carbon & Energy Fund Framework designed to reduce energy and divert money to front line services.

Following on from our successful delivery of the Ayrshire Central Hospital Steam Energy Centre, we were approached by the client to remove and replace their existing Reverse Osmosis plant and associated pipework. The existing pipework within the hospital had been installed 10 years prior and had started to experience serious issues with corrosion. As a result, we were tasked to design and build a suitable replacement for this system. Key to the success of the project was working closely with the client to ensure that the system remained live during peak operating times whilst we liaised with the estates department to keep downtime to a minimum.
