WHY DOES BIOMASS OFFER SUCH AN ATTRACTIVE ALTERNATIVE?
Meeting your future energy needs
Why does biomass offer such an attractive alternative to fossil fuels?

Biomass fuels come in many forms, from waste food products, sustainable forests and recycled materials. All these fuel sources are carbon neutral because they are derived from plants that removed CO2 from the atmosphere when they were growing – therefore contributing no CO2 to the environment.

In the UK some of these fuel options are limited. The carbon and financial cost of transporting timber from remote forest to urban power station makes this an unattractive solution. Waste food products can only be realistically used close to source and also do not represent a reliable and universally available fuel source. Dalkia Bio-energy has opted to use recycled wood because it is sustainable, has gone beyond its primary use and is in plentiful supply. And by tapping into this fuel source, Dalkia Bio-energy is saving hundreds of thousands of tonnes of wood from going to landfill.
Biomass and Combined Heat and Power – the perfect combination
As energy prices have climbed steadily over the last few years, CHP has become a financially more attractive way of meeting our energy needs. CHP is more efficient than conventional power stations because the heat produced is used and not wasted so as a result produces significantly fewer carbon emissions. By running these CHP systems with Biomass alternatives we are retaining the high efficiency but with a carbon-neutral fuel.
Dalkia – world leader in biomass and CHP applications
By working with us you are gaining from our considerable experience in the area of biomass and CHP technologies. Dalkia already delivers 250 MWe capacity through CHP technology in the UK and over 1500 MW of energy from renewable sources internationally.
We have over 100 biomass plants across the world representing over 1,275000MWh of managed primary green energy. Check out some of our international operations
