THE ROLE OF BIO ENERGY IN REDUCING CLIMATE CHANGE

Developing a sustainable energy future

The use of biomass as a source of renewable energy is one of the few proven, cost-effective and available technologies that can have an immediate impact on CO2 emissions.

We are all contributing in some way to climate change. We need to face the reality that every day in our daily activities we are causing the release of carbon emissions into the atmosphere and accelerating climate change. Everyone contributes and leaves their own unique carbon footprint.

The generation problem

Fossil fuels are burnt in power stations to produce the energy our facilities and buildings use, such as heating, cooling and electricity. Burning them to produce energy is amongst the biggest contributors to increasing levels of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere. Even the best fossil fuelled power station is only around 40% efficient due to heat-loss. Dalkia's Bio-energy solution overcomes this through the use of a carbon-neutral fuel source and local CHP heat and electricity supply, which is typically 90% efficient.

Biomass in the form of recycled wood represents one of the most practical and sustainable options available for green energy. And when linked to CHP technology, provides a proven and cost-effective, environmentally-friendly means of providing our future energy needs.
