DALKIA RESEARCH & DEVELOPMENT
Research projects at CREED
Dalkia's managing parent Veolia Environnement, maintains a dedicated in-house research and development service known as CREED which ensures Dalkia clients are provided with leading environmental services.
Dalkia's approach to Research & Development is the first of its kind in the world with a focus on the development of new systems and technologies.
With around 500 researchers in 15 centres and a budget of £60million pa, the VE centres focus on testing and the use of:
![]() | alternative renewable power sources,
![]() | treating, recycling and disposal of waste, and
![]() | improving and maintaining water quality |
Their work consists of developing and optimising the systems needed to preserve each living environment affected by Dalkia and Veolia Group activities. The aim is environmental protection and to help Group companies and their clients to improve the efficiency of their operations.
Energy R&D Programme
The energy specific R&D programme is an extremely important part of CREED's overall schedule.
A team of 23 engineers and scientists from backgrounds including thermal sciences, chemistry and metallurgy is dedicated to this programme.
Current projects which have been tested in the field with encouraging results, include:
![]() | Industrial Refrigeration: An investigation of potential savings techniques and optimisation of coolant selection which has resulted in an increase in energy efficiency of 20%
![]() | Mathematical optimisation of operating parameters for power production plant including CHP which when applied in the field has provided a reduction in overall energy costs by 3% |
Other projects which look to develop innovative solutions, include:
![]() | Biomass combustion control and economic optimisation
![]() | Waste heat recovery with innovative solutions for use of low energy heat sources on wood fired plant
![]() | Exhaust gas treatment on Dalkia sites to reduce emissions and reduce local impact
![]() | Proton exchange membrane fuel cell development providing efficiencies of over 80% |
Applying the output of this leading edge research will enable Dalkia to introduce innovative solutions to reduce CO2 emissions, create additional value throughout the contract term for our customers and shorten the time required to meet business growth objectives.
