Modern Apprenticeships with Dalkia
What is a Modern Apprenticeship? It is a scheme, open to 16-24 year olds, which combines work based practical learning with attendance on either day or block release at a local college plus some off the job development training and leads to National or Scottish Vocational Qualifications at Level II and Level III. It also gives you the chance to gain certificates in Key Skills (Maths, Literacy and IS) as well as a formal Technical Certificate such as BTEC ONC (Ordinary National Certificate) and HND (Higher National Diploma). Apprenticeships at Dalkia At Dalkia we want to train individuals in technical disciplines which will ensure we have specialist and multi skilled technicians for the future. Therefore the apprenticeships which ultimately prove to be the most useful to Dalkia, given the services we provide to our clients, are:
How long does it take? It varies but on average it takes 3 years to successfully complete a Modern Apprenticeship. Progression through each stage depends on how quickly you can demonstrate experience and competence in the subjects.
What would a 3-year programme look like? Well in Year 1 we would expect you to: Attend work and undertake day/block release at college Commence the NVQ Level II in the chosen subject Undertake your key skills Possibly commence a BTEC Year 2 would include: Ongoing on the job work experience and training plus day/block release at college Completion of the BTEC National Certificate/Diploma Additional in company training modules such as further health and safety training, energy awareness Probably some job rotation, ie: an opportunity to experience other departments Commencing your NVQ Level III Year 3 would include: On job work experience and training plus day/block release at college Continuation of job rotations, experience of other departments Additional training on role specific modules such as refrigeration Commencement of further BTEC certificates if you have the ability Completion of NVQ Level III Even when the 3 years are complete the development plan will continue, ensuring a career path is in place. The apprenticeship will give you a great opportunity to commence and develop a career with Dalkia. How do I find the right college and course? You don't need to. Working together we will identify the right college and course for you. Campus Veolia, our internal training and development centre takes responsibility for managing all aspects of the college registration, on going liaison, funding and formal training. What sort of assessment is involved? Your work and progress will be regularly assessed by your college tutor and workplace supervisor as well as formal assessment by an accredited NVQ Assessor. What do we want from you? You must have the dedication and determination to succeed. You will also need the ability and tenacity to commit yourself to up to four years of training study whilst working full time. It requires hard work but we will support you every step of the way.
